More Updates

I've had some more information forwarded , about the Celebration of Lynn's Life in Thunder Bay.
Family and Friends are invited to gather on Friday September 5 at the DaVinci Centre in Thunder Bay from noon until 3 pm. to celebrate Lynn. In lieu of flower donations, if desired can be made in Lynn's memory, to the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society.
On a personal note, I would like to tell you a little story about Lynn and I, when she came here to Perth, and joined our little groups through Barbara, she had to do some needle work! Lol
I love to quilt and Lynn became a beautiful hand embroiderer in no time, so of course she offered to embroider some blocks for me , for a quilt I wanted to make. She ended up making all the embroidered blocks and we decided to donate the quilt to an animal rescue. Since I rescued a little puppy last year and She was very close to Lynn when she was sick, we decided to donate it to that rescue.
Below, you will find a few pictures ands link if you'd like to donate, every $5.00 donated will get you two tickets to the draw for the quilt. ( to be drawn, Sept 14th)

You can donate by etransfer or paypal by using email address , donate.safehomeanimalrescue@gmail.com

As Time Goes By

As summer starts to wane, I write to you tonight with an update.
We have been blessed to have Lynn with us for the last six months, and in relatively good condition.
A plateau however was reached and her situation has suddenly worsened quite dramatically. ( in the last 24 hours).
There has been a sudden dramatic decline in her condition.
We know that some  of you who read this blog, and know Lynn's Mom, have contacted her after the updates. It may be a good time to allow her a little peace as she has been notified of the situation, and needs time to deal with it on her own, with her son and his family to help.
We all continue to pray for Lynn at this very sad time, and Know that she has made her peace with this and is ready to leave this world. Godspeed Lynn.
I share with you now, a little something that often brings me peace.

June 28th, Little Moments of Happiness

Canada Day is almost here, and the blog has been updated very seldom, because there really is very little to report. Lynn turned 65 recently, and we had a small impromptu birthday celebration with the just a few of us girls. She had no time to get excited about it so it was a lovely fun afternoon. Her Mom and Sister in law who were in for the weekend, were not even told, till a bit before!
Lynn's house has been sold, and closed and possessions distributed. Her phone and email accounts have been closed. So our little organizer has that feeling of things being done! Whew!! LOL
She is actually quite well considering the situation. She has adjusted to the situation, and the orderliness and stability of routine is very calming to her. She tries to take a walk with Barbara or Eric every day.
Her memory, mobility, and eyesight continue to be compromised , however she has learned to compensate in other ways.
Lynn appreciates receiving little cards of kindness.
Here a couple of pictures of some simple fun times recently.

A Little Clarification

This is a very hard post to write. I hope that I can do it justice and help you to understand.
Lynn is very emotionally fragile.
Lynn has had many emails and phone calls and other requests to communicate. These requests are obviously well meaning and sincere but they do cause Lynn severe emotional anxiety and upset.
I know it is hard for us to understand this, but it's just how it is. When I previously explained how Lynn is living day to day, it's really more like hour to hour or minute to minute. The severe stress and anxiety can cause sleeplessness and physical and emotional pain!
We don't understand whether this is caused by the actual tumour pressure, the fact that she has always tried to be on top of things, the medications or a combination of all of these things.
The time that Lynn has left must be lived her way, and we have to stand back and respect that!
Barbara and Eric are determined to respect her wishes. She really is not being kept from people, it's just the way things HAVE to be.
We do understand, that it might be so hard for you not to be there for Lynn, and you want to see her one more time, but it just is not feasible, and we only ask that you try to understand.
The only thing that Lynn can accept at this time, is kind cards of caring but nothing too deep, just a little note to let her know you're thinking of her.
When days are good, and we are enjoying a little quiet time sewing or quilting, Lynn often speaks so fondly of you, the people who've been in her life, whether it be a long time ago or more recently.
She is not emotionally able to give you anything more at this point and after all, right now that is all there is, we are making Lynn number one and this protection is what makes her calm and able to have some peace.
Thank You, so much to all those of you who understand, that we are the lucky ones, the ones that have been chosen to help her through her last days. I know how much you want to be there or see her, but please try to understand how hard it is for her.
After many hard days and nights, she is finding a little peace, here she is, peaceful and happy. We had a play day (what we call our little sew days) last Sunday and we watched with amazement how these two gazed into each other's eyes and seemed to soothe each other. The unbelievable part, is my little dog, Morgan is a rescue, been with us only six months, and this is the first time she initiated going to someone. They stayed in this position for such a long time and today they had a similar experience.
So in summary, a card or a kind note, or flowers, but no requests for visits or calls.
Barbara and Eric have requested no further emails to them or Lynn, as they are busy every day with keeping Lynn well and comfortable. Please address any inquiries to me at ruthoblinski@gmail.com and I will make sure they are relayed at an appropriate time.

Family Time and another MRI

Lynn is enjoying having her family here for a few days. They are satisfied to see that Lynn is surrounded by love and good wishes. I think this visit will bring a lot peace in the knowledge that Lynn is exactly where she's meant to be.
Eric and Bill (brother) took Lynn for her MRI tonight. This needed to be done, so the radiologists know exactly the size of the tumours after the surgery.
She is comfortable with her decision to try the treatment. It will be a six week week, 5 days a week session. If they are able to finish the treatments, it may give Lynn more time. WE should know more soon, as to when they start. So I sign off tonight with a little picture, taken after dinner last evening, with the family.

Chemo and Radiology

Lynn had a visit today with a Radiologist / Oncologist team at Kingston hospital. She explained to them, that she wanted quality of life to be her first priority. The results of that discussion is that they feel they can prolong her time if she takes the treatments and life would be a good quality. They are thinking a year instead of a couple of months. So Lynn has made the decision, to try the treatments and see how they go.
She will have another MRI to see how much of the tumours the doctors have  removed so they can proceed with the treatments with the right knowledge. When asked about treatment side effects, she was told they can help any side effects except hair loss!!! So I guess it's time I started making some chemo caps. It won't be nearly as nice as the lovely little beret that Eric went out and bought her for her first trip out since the surgery. I'll have to take a picture. It's just the cutest thing. So, off to bed I go, in the knowledge that those kind doctors may just be able to keep our lovely Lynn with us a little longer!!! God is Good!!!

Sunday, 2 March 2014

We had a lovely sunny day here in Perth, even though it's cold, getting colder and we had snow overnight!!!
You won't believe what Lynn did this morning!!! She wanted some fresh air, so decided to go outside and shovel the drive!!!LOL
She's got a couple doctors appointments this week and then will be waiting for her family to arrive.
Lynn wanted to Thank everyone for all the kind thoughts and prayers.
I thought I'd post a picture that Eric took of Lynn and Barbara and I this week.
It is the day I gave her the quilt from all of us, with all your names signed, under the message "wrap the quilt around you, when you want to feel the strength of the love of us all"
I didn't get a good picture of the quilt but I will soon, and I'll post it here.
Until then, Cheers and have a good week!

Wednesday, 26 February 2014

I'm so sorry to be bringing news that is less than positive but we want to be honest to all you wonderful people who care about Lynn.
Lynn did great recovering from the surgery, but it looks like a plateau hes been reached.
Her sleeps are broken at best and  she is trying to be active but tires very quickly.
Naps are helpful.
One little bit of good news is that Lynn's Mother, Brother and Sister in Law will be arriving, for a few days next week from Thunder Bay.
I'm sure it will be a bitter sweet time for all of them.
Lynn mentioned that Eric would be writing the blog, but I'll be continuing  (with Barbara and Eric's input).
Thank You and God Bless
Ruth

Hopefully she will be home with Barbara and Eric in a few days.

Feb 10 2014 The Beginning of a new Journey for Me

I guess I've been too lucky for too long health wise and it's caught up with me now  ... big time!!
The bad news is, I have been diagnosed with two tumours on the right side of my brain.

The good news is, I'm in the right place, because the medical system in the Perth and surrounding area has proven to be phenomenal and a whole community of wonderful, caring and supportive friends is in full swing helping me through this.  Thanks to all for your good wishes, thoughts and prayers ... all gratefully received.

I'm to be admitted to hospital Monday, and, at this point, expect surgery will follow a.s.a.p., probably sometime this week.

Our tech savvy friend, Ruth Oblinski, is setting up this blog for Eric Halpin to use as a tool to post updates respecting my situation.

Looking forward to better news and days ahead.

Keep those thoughts and prayers coming.

With gratitude, appreciation and huge hugs to all,

As always,
Lynn
